Memory Sequence

Memorise the growing sequence

The rules of Memory Sequence

Memory Sequence follows the idea of Simon, the electronic memory game released in 1978. Four big colored pads (green, red, yellow and blue) light up one after another: watch the sequence, then repeat it in the same order by tapping the colors.

If you repeat it without a mistake, the same sequence comes back next turn with one more color at the end. Your first mistake ends the game, and your score is the number of levels you completed.

The display speed doesn't change from one level to the next: only the length of the sequence makes the game harder and harder.

During the game, a message guides you: "Watch the sequence…" while the colors light up, then "Your turn to repeat!" when it's your move. The counter at the top of the screen shows your current level.

Tips to go further

Don't memorize the whole sequence from scratch each turn: it never changes, it only gets longer. Focus on the new color added at the end, and let the beginning play out almost on autopilot.

Split the sequence into small chunks of three or four colors, the way you'd remember a phone number. "Green-red-blue, yellow-yellow-green" is much easier to hold than a list of six separate colors.

Link each color to its position (top left, bottom right…) or name it under your breath as it lights up. Using sight, position and words together helps your memory hold longer sequences. Above all, don't rush: there's no timer while you repeat the sequence. If you keep stalling at the same level, start a new game right away: repetition is the best training.

A free online memory game

Memory Sequence is free to play in your browser, with a mouse or with your finger on a phone. Games are short, which makes it a good daily workout for working memory and focus, at any age.

With an account, your best level goes onto the leaderboard next to the game. And when you want to play with others, NoBrainGame also has party games for friends, each on their own phone.
